Luke 7:50
“And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.”
In Luke chapter seven verses from 36-50, we read the story of a sinful women and how Jesus forgives her sins. The courageous attitude of this women completely startled me. We often talk about faith and acting upon faith but we least talk about the courage that a person needs to have in seeking Jesus and for his forgiveness.
Have you ever wondered why people stay away from gospel? It’s not that they don’t want to hear about it but it’s because of their community, family pride, their status etc. that they are scared of. They don’t have enough courage to break these barriers.
But look at this woman who knew that people would mock of what she was but took the courage to seek Jesus. She knew that she was a sinner and the people around her too knew that she was a sinner (Luk7:37) but didn’t hesitate to enter into the house where Jesus was, knowing well that it was the house of a Pharisee (Luk7:36).
The Pharisees thought that they were the holy ones of the holy God and that to even look at a sinner was disgusting to them. Here too we read that the Pharisee who invited Jesus couldn’t see the lady touching the feet of Jesus and becomes doubtful if Jesus was really a prophet (Luk7:39).
This lady surely knew the thoughts of the Pharisees but she never gave a second thought on meeting Jesus. She didn’t mind about the place and the situation. All she wanted was to see Jesus. It seems that the day when she heard people telling about Jesus and his love and compassion towards sinners her heart was determined to meet him and might have looked around her house to honour him with her special gift that she had and no one knows how long she waited for that day.
As that day came she came running towards Jesus pushing away the crowd and with tears gushing her eyes poured that special alabaster box of ointment on his feet. She didn’t see Jesus face but humbled herself under his feet wiping her fallen tears on his feet with her hair and pouring that expensive oil on his feet. We do not find this woman uttering a single word. Her actions spoke of her heart’s desire. She wanted forgiveness and sought after the one who had the authority to forgive the sins. As it is written that God sees the heart of every man (1 Sam16:7) and here he sees the heart and faith of a submissive woman who went beyond others criticism. Nothing could ever stop her. She went back with joy and peace that her sins were all forgiven (Luk7:50).
Think about this woman and her courageous action and look at the things that’s stopping you to seek the Saviour. I have seen and heard about people from great background rejecting salvation. Please don’t harden your hearts with prejudice towards God. He is a loving God who gave his son to die for our sins so that we may have everlasting life. I pray that your courage pops out of you today so that you may know the truth and have the peace that he gives you.
God bless you all. Amen.
